WET100011-Weekly Review


Week 1-Topic 1

**BASIC CULTURELIZATION OF ENTREPRENEURSHIP**

Similar to other classes, the 1st week of APK started off with some basic introduction of what the course is going be with simple concepts and attributes. The following were the things that was taught:

Importance of the study of entrepreneurship
  • Promotes change & growth of national economy
  • Increase successful individuals with competitive businesses
  • Create & expand a higher level of culture and attributes of entrepreneurship
Concepts
Entrepreneurs: Pioneer of successful business activities. Derived from an old French word “entreprendre”, which means to shoulder or try.
Entrepreneurship (Hisrich & Peter, 1998): Entrepreneur who undertakes the dynamic process of inventing something new by taking in financial, psychological and social risks and acquiring wealth (profits, personal satisfaction and freedom).

Week 2- Topic 2

**SELF-COMPETENCY ANALYSIS**

Self-Competency Analysis of Entrepreneurial Abilities
For week 2, it's more of a continuation of week 1 as it discusses about the entrepreneur abilities/attributes which were briefly gone through previously.  The abilities could be classified into 4 major categories shown below:
Personal Characteristics
Initiative, Self-Confidence, Focused on Quality Work, Commitment to Agreements, Efficiency-focused, Iron-willed, Steadfast
Interpersonal Skills
Instill Confidence in Others
Critical and Creative Thinking Skills
Solving Problems, View & Grab Opportunities
Practical Skills
Information seeking, Systematic Planning

Each of the categories has its own traits needed for an entrepreneur to be successful. Besides that, the concept of power strategies and some main failure factors of entrepreneurs were discussed.

Week 4- Topic 4 

**CREATIVITY & INNOVATION** 


Week 4 was all about understanding the aspects of creativity and innovation.
Creativity: Unique development & answer/response to expected problems
Innovation: Approach towards creating a new product, process or service in an improved manner & not resting on laurels


The importance of developing creative ideas were also discussed with the techniques needed to be innovative and creative. Several types of innovation were also explained with the obstacles that might hinder creativity & innovativeness.

Week 5- Topic 5

**BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES**

Business opportunities is where new ideas generated via innovative process by establishing a new business, developing new products or services.
It is important to identify business opportunities by evaluating the situations that may contribute to the most viable and profitable return. Environmental & Market Factors such as demographic, psychographic and ICT take a major role in today's business. These roughly sum up week 5 lecture.

Week 6- Topic 3 and Topic  6

**SKILLS NEEDED TO START A BUSINESS**

Week 6 started off with the topic 6 that teaches us to use the 5W1H to identify the required resources to start a business.
Some of the resources are business capital, business location and its facilities. It is also crucial to know the techniques of effective negotiation and communication skills for the purpose of purchasing and selling.

**ENTREPRENEURIAL ETHICS**

The class went on with topic 3 as week 3 class was cancelled. This topic is about the ethical entrepreneur concept from the perspective of Islam and how it is accepted into business.
